Clean Skincare Favorites

As most of you know, I was a makeup artist for many years and I’ve always been obsessed with makeup and skincare! Ever since I started reading a book called “The Woman Code“, I’ve been inspired to clean out the products that I use daily on my skin and on my girls’ skin and I wanted to round up my current favorite “clean” brands for you.

I use the apps Think Dirty and EWG’s Healthy Living to search for products that I use and see the level of toxicity in their ingredients and then I purge accordingly. I literally will scan anything and everything now. It was crazy for me to see in the beginning how many products I was using that had so many endocrine disruptors! I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 1996 and with Hashimoto’s in 2014, and I’ve always been pretty mindful about the food that I consumed but it wasn’t until I read that book that I really started to be mindful with what I put on my skin too.

Here are some of my favorite “clean” skin care products:

  • Daily Face SPF 25: I love this one so much and I’ll use it on my girls’ faces too if we’re out and about.
  • Tinted Moisturizer: When I’m not wearing foundation, I’m usually wearing a tinted moisturizer and I’ve gone through a lot of them before I found this one!
  • Countertime Lipid Defense Cleansing Oil: I love to use a cleansing oil or a balm to take my makeup off at night, even more so than a makeup wipe, and I have found that this one is one of my favorite “clean” ones.
  • Speaking of makeup wipes, I looked up the ones that I was using, and on a 1-10 scale of being a “clean” brand when I looked it up, it was an 8! So now I’m using THESE, which is a 3 (according to the Think Dirty app).
  • Eye Cream: I’ve been using intensive eye creams since my 20’s and this one does not disappoint. I typically have dry skin so I need something that actually makes me feel moisturized, not just say it on the bottle!
  • Overnight cream: Again, with the moisturizing. I’m a big fan of putting creams over serums because it makes me feel like it’s actually working. Anyone else?

That’s it so far for skincare for now! I haven’t done a full switch on products yet, but I’ll keep updating you guys as I go along. I’ll also do another post on what I’m using on my kids and also how I’m cleaning up my makeup routine for those of you interested and let me know if you’re interested in knowing what else we’re “cleaning up” at home.

It’s been a slow and steady process so if you’re doing this too, give yourself grace! Rome wasn’t built in a day and you won’t be able to eliminate every single toxic thing in a day either. Start small and work your way up, if you’re passionate about it, and do your own research. Knowledge and consistency are key!
