I HAVE A LEAKY GUT

Hey y’all. You read that right…. I have a leaky gut. What’s a leaky gut, you ask? Imagine, if you will, that your intestinal walls have tiny holes in them that allow the toxins in the foods that you are eating seep out into your bloodstream and cause your entire system to attack itself and shut down….. bingo bango. I also have an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto Thyroiditis (also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. It is an autoimmune disorder in which antibodies directed against the thyroid gland lead to chronic inflammation. *American Thyroid Association), on top of an under active thyroid called Hypothyroidism.

What is Leaky Gut?

  • Leaky gut, or “intestinal permeability,” is a condition in which the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged, causing undigested food particles, toxic waste products and bacteria to “leak” through the intestines and flood the blood stream. The foreign substances entering the blood can cause an autoimmune response in the body including inflammatory and allergic reactions such as migraines, irritable bowel, eczema, chronic fatigue, food allergies, rheumatoid arthritis and more.

Scientifically speaking, they haven’t figured out which came first the Leaky Gut or the Autoimmune disease but what they do know for sure is that they are directly involved with one another.

Leaky Gut Symptoms (some of…) :

  • Chronic diarrhea, constipation, gas or bloating
  • Nutritional Deficiencies
  • Poor Immune System
  • Brain Fog
  • Cravings for sugar and/or carbs
  • Excessive Fatigue
  • Skin rashes and problems such as acne, eczema or rosacea
  • Arthritis or joint pain
  • Depression, anxiety, ADD, ADHD
  • Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, celiac disease or Crohn’s

I’ve always had issues with my gut and with food but I never had an answer for what was happening, and Doctor after Doctor would just blow me off and try to give me more and more pills to suppress my symptoms.

My first sigh of relief came just a few years ago when I found the book Jennifer’s Way by Jennifer Esposito. In it, she talks about the same struggles that I faced ever since I was around 16 (which btw was when I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidsm). I shed tears reading this book because I finally felt like someone understood me and what I was experiencing and now I had answers on what to do next.

I’ve recently been experiencing symptoms again and decided to get allergy tested which came back to say that I was basically allergic to EVERYTHING that I was eating. It didn’t make any sense. We then called the doctor back to see if they would be able to help me with a nutrition plan, since I was clearly very limited in my approved foods. We were then told that the lab made a mistake and that they had to re run my tests to get an accurate list of approved foods. Ugh. After that, my limited foods still didn’t make any sense and the office was unable to help me with a nutrition plan, as this wasn’t in their scope of expertise. Great.

I then felt lost, again, and then decided to take matters into my own hands. I found the Medical Medium and started following his 28 day Thyroid Detox plan and I haven’t felt better! I’m also taking doTERRA’s DDR Prime Cellular Complex Softgels and I take their Vegan Life Long Vitality Pack daily, which have both helped me tremendously.

I’m writing this blog to tell you that you’re not alone. To the people who ask me about being vegan, to the others who have the same symptoms that I do/did and don’t know how to get answers. There is a way. Take your health into your own hands and ask for the data supporting any and all medical statements made about your body and your health. Do your research and change your eating lifestyle! Food has SO much to do with how our bodies THRIVE and stay healthy.

Anyway, that’s my PSA.

Thank you for stopping by!
