Getting to know your baby

If you have a baby or have ever had a baby, you know there are some fussy phases am I right? Sometimes it feels like they come up from out of the blue! Well, I’m here to tell you that there’s a method to that madness and it’s called The Wonder Weeks.

The Wonder Weeks

Research has shown that babies make 10 major, predictable, age-linked changes during their first 20 months of their lives. These mental leaps affect mood and sleep patterns and there’s a drastic change in your baby’s mental development during those times. The Wonder Weeks book is a guide to your baby’s behavior and it has detailed information on each leap and what exactly happens each time. They also have an app that is SUPER helpful because it allows you to set an alarm to remind you when your baby is about to go through a leap. Just when I start to wonder why my baby is starting to fuss for no apparent reason, I usually get an alert that she’s about to start a leap.

Tracking Your Baby’s Mental Leaps

I’ve tracked all of my 3 babies’ leaps and they’ll usually start to show signs of a leap starting a few days, or even a week before the leap is set to start. The leaps start in the womb, believe it or not, and you have to start tracking from your due date even if your baby wasn’t born on that exact date. Remember that due dates aren’t an exact science and really just a guesstimate of when your baby might be due.

Why The Wonder Weeks Are Important

Like I said before, I’ve always tracked each baby’s mental leaps, and not only do I want to keep on top of my baby’s mental development, but I also want to know how to help her transition from leap to leap. It helps me to understand what she’s learning and how I can assist in her learning, but also for peace of mind that when she gets fussy or super clingy, I know that there’s a shift happening and that’s exciting!

Have you heard of The Wonder Weeks? Are you using or have you used their method before?
