Post Partum Must Haves

Hi everyone! I’ve been missing in action ever since Avery was born and have cherishing spending the fourth trimester bonding with my 2 daughters, which has been an amazing experience.

I’ve been getting questions about what I’ve been loving after having a second baby, and I thought I would write a post for you guys about my top Post Partum Must Haves!

  1. Placenta Pills : Don’t knock it until you try it! I know it might sound crazy to some of you, but for me, it’s been one of the best things ever in both of my deliveries! Basically, you hire a placenta encapsulist to dehydrate your placenta and give it back to you in pill form. It’s been said to aid in PPD (Post Partum Depression), help with your milk supply, elevate your mood and so many other beneficial things. This time Avery’s placenta was much smaller than Olivia’s, so I didn’t get as many pills as before, but what I did get was extremely helpful in those first few weeks.
  2. Lactation Consultant : We hired a lactation consultant after both deliveries and they were life savers. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about breastfeeding, it helps to have someone there that knows what they’re doing and can support you accordingly.
  3. Galactagogues : These are the things that will help increase your milk supply. Some of my go to’s are Fenugreek (consult a lactation consultant if you have an endocrine issue), Mrs. Patel’s Fenugreek Bars, Blessed Milk Thistle, Goat’s Rue (it’s a plant, relax), Fennel Oil and Motherlove Milk Plus.
  4. Solly Baby Wrap : I cannot say enough great things about baby wearing. For starters, babies that are worn cry 33% less than babies who are not worn. That’s reason enough for me! But really, I can wear my baby and have her close to me and have my hands free to still do everything that I need to do around the house! Babies are still getting adjusted to being “earth side” and they need the warmth of being worn and to be close to your heart. This wrap is my absolutely favorite for the smaller babies!
  5. Essential Oils : I wrote a post about how I got rid of mastitis using essential oils, but that’s not the only reason why I use oils! I got hit with Postpartum Depression and my essential oils helped TREMENDOUSLY! My amazing neighbor made me some rollers of different ones to help elevate my moods each day and I can’t thank her enough. There are several books that you can read about how oils help with pregnancy and postpartum and you can find them on Amazon.

What are some of your postpartum must haves???
