A good day to Die Hard.

A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) Poster

If you know me you may know that I’m a die hard “Die Hard” fan, so I was uber excited that number 5 was coming out on Valentine’s Day! I’ve been talking about this movie since I first saw the preview about 5 months ago so you know that’s all I wanted to do for Valentine’s Day….. Unfortunately I was thoroughly disappointed. 🙁

**SPOILER ALERT** Do NOT read this if you don’t want to know what happens in this movie.

Where should I start…..? First of all it seemed like they just pulled the script and concept to this movie out of their ass and in a hurry. John McClane goes to Moscow because he hears that his son is in some kind of trouble. When he gets there he learns that it’s all a cover and that his son is in the CIA working on a mission. However, predictably the mission goes haywire and now John McClane has to help his son shoot the bad guys and save the day.

Jai Courtney plays Jack McClane (also knows as John McClane…) – who is this guy? The only thing I liked about him were his arms and eyes. Other than that I could have done without him. They made him John McClane’s son???? Why? McClane Jr should be a tough ass that looks like he can handle the bad guys with swagger. This guy is definitely not believable as John McClane’s son, who incidentally looks like he’s going to be taking over the Die Hard franchise since Bruce Willis doesn’t look like he can handle any more… He’ll always be my John McClane though. 🙂 There are some things in this world that shouldn’t be copied or duplicated. Didn’t they ever watch the movie “Multiplicity”???

Not to mention the dancing clown who is portrayed as the villain – really? In what? Scooby Doo? There was a plot twist with the actual villain that was kind of cool and they brought back the original death scene of the bad guy from the first movie to tie it all in. Soooo clever…….

If you’re looking for an action filled movie with car chases, fires, guns etc with no depth then this is the movie for you! For us who are emotionally invested in the characters – you may be disappointed. And by “may” I mean “will”.

I give this movie 2 owls. I wouldn’t watch it again…. and that’s rare for me.
